You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.
– James 4:4 (NLT)
What kind of friend are you? Our heavenly father calls us friend. He is faithful, honest, loving and wants the best for us. He is the best friend anyone could ever have but what kind of friend are we to Christ? We go through life constantly making choices. We know right from wrong yet we sometimes give in to our own desires. We sometime give in to worldly temptations to fit in, feel good, be accepted, etc… We may receive gratification within that moment but we soon feel a sense of conviction when we have chosen to do wrong. Think about your friendships that you have. Do you make decisions that will hurt your friends? Imagine being partially loyal to your friends you have today. This would mean that you are disloyal at other times. God doesn’t want part-time friendship from us. He desires a fully devoted life. When we give our life to Christ we are choosing to serve Him and live a godly life. The scripture reads, “You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.” We can’t have the best of both worlds. If we are not for God then we are against Him. Christ died that we may be saved and have eternal life. The least we can do is give our life back to him and serve him with our whole hearts. Ask God to help you to be faithful to Him. Ask for wisdom and discernment to stay true to His word. Be a good friend to Him as He will always be a good friend to us.
